In Advance of the Institution

John, your response to structure is something of a dance,
Over and throughout the arts and sciences.
I saw those citations in your tome-
The line of enquiry that whipped your art practice into slick academic shape.

I am unsure why I fell for you, John.
I cannot convince myself that it was just an exercise, or,
Some academic intrigue- In fact,
It disgusts me to love in such terms.

I said that I didn’t understand the difference between stage blood and real.
I lied so sincerely when I said that to you. I feel real blood and tell myself it was stage
It must have been from the stage,
The way I feel, it must have been acting, somehow:

You are like a disease.
I can pull a sickie for you,
Diseases are real, felt things.
Diseases can be spread so generous and easily.
Diseases can rarely be denied when you feel the symptoms.

A few of my usual interventions want to come to stop me. &
I won’t let them!
Nor will I just leave you to do whatever it is that you are doing to me.

It is my base instinct to replace Adrenaline with adrenaline (blaaah)
I look at the pathways between blood, synovial and directionless sperm (we know!)
They don’t swim, they crawl (well,)
It is my base instinct to replace Institution with institution.
To tie Taxonomy to taxonomy, like a big network of accused
Replacements of existing treelike taxonomy,
To subtweet all the cometpartners of govanhill,
Replacing Radical with radial, or,
Throwing paint at the wrong shop front cause I don’t understand the signage.

Addendum/ footnote:

All of it’s so neatly put into MHRA. Beautiful

That’s the long and short of it really.

You are beautiful,

Your practice is,

Your home is,

Your lifestyle is,

Your look is,

Your gaze is,

Your words are… and so on and so forth
